not cute to you

This is a hosta.  Isn't she pretty?

I planted a garden this spring, and do you know what?

It didn't grow.

Well, that's not entirely true. It did grow, poor little thing, just not up. Not up to my expectations. Not, well, up. It just kind of maintained for the most part.

Things looked great for a while, but then the weather turned warm. Excuse me, did I say warm? Bless my heart, I meant hot. Scorching, blazing hot, ya'll. I do live in Texas. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

About two weeks after that little garden set to growing, we welcomed Mabeline the basset hound into our home. We consists of my husband, John, our daughter, Evie, and our loyal guardian, Ranger.

Boy, was I naive.

While I was thinking our family had grown by one, knee deep in puppy love, Ranger had begun not-so-secretly peeing on my plants. Yes, that's right. Peeing on my plants! I don't know if you're acquainted with what hot pee does to purty little green things, but I'm telling you, it's not a positive experience for hostas and elephant ears.

Well, the temperatures rose, the garden turned brown and crackly, and I got the message loud and clear.

Ranger, I get it. She's not cute to you.

  2. Good to know. We plan to get a pup this Christmas and I want to plant a garden in the spring. If it does not grow I know to blame puppy pee. Lol.
